Jazz that embraces Latin, Brazilian , African, Arabic and Funk
Global Wave is a jazz fusion outfit based on the original compositions of Azhaar Saffar. The music is infused with latin, brazilian and african influcences, in which Azhaar sings and plays jazz violin.
Azhaar Saffar made her reputation fronting and co-writing for the popular Brazilian jazz group Sirius B. Their album, ‘Posto Nove’ , was playlisted at no 1 on Jazz FM and in the Japanese Brazilian charts.
She later released the album ‘Out There’ launched at Londons 606 Club. She has performed all over Europe, including international festival as such as Montreux , Mai Jazz, Brecon and Glastonbury.
A self confessed nomad of Iraqi/Welsh origins, Azhaar has, after an absence travelling, touring and exploring her nomadic roots in the jungles and oceans of Central America, returned with her new project Global Wave.
She describes the music as new world jazz – Jazz that embraces Latin, Brazilian , African, Arabic and Funk – a continuation of the world jazz experience started with Sirius B.
With a fantastic international line up Global Wave takes us on a voyage that redefines the musical boundaries: a vibrant, irreverent fusion of world rhythms, funk and jazz enhanced by Azhaar’s glorious violin! booking and more
