Unesco Geoparks Conference Party – help required

For information about the conference, see here.

Seven hundred delegates will be descending on Torbay for the conference.

Torbay Community Development Trust is organising a party for delegates on Wednesday 28th in Princess Gardens. Security has been booked, but Community Builder Marianne Parker is looking for volunteer stewards to mingle, explain the very english activities and point people in the right direction for food, toilets etc.  It is open to the general public too.

Please e-mail Marianne, at marianneparker@torbaycdt.org.uk, if you would be interested in helping.

Some background information courtesy of TCDT:

There will be small samples of fish and chips available for the delegates only – rest of the food will be for purchase. We usually provide £5.00 towards refreshments for volunteers if they work over a meal time.

We have organised 10 food providers, 10 craft stalls, 6 ‘traditional games’, 6 musical acts, fire poi, Punch and Judy, Morris Dancers, Magician, people on stilts, plus staging, lighting, security/stewards, first aid, deck chairs etc…

We are still looking for more stewards just to be safe.

The Wed night will be a free night for delegates, but there are concerns that 700 people descending on the restaurants in Torquay Town Centre, all in one go, might cause chaos – one of the reasons we are putting this event on is to give delegates more food opportunities. Some delegates will go to the local restaurants – but some can be fed at the street party making it all a bit more manageable.
