The real concerns for me with this scheme are the loss of Cary Green as a public amenity, the loss of the Pavilions as a true community asset and the overall height and design of the apartments and hotel which at their highest will be taller than Abbey Sands. Surely this will cast a shadow over most of the harbour and seriously impact on the setting of the Pavilion. We have been waiting such a long time for details of this proposal to come out, which is possibly deliberate as a sense of desperation may kick in and a belief that it is this development or no development and uncertain future for the Pavilion. Cary Green will become part of the overall package too so we won’t even get proper money for that. Personally, I think we should go back to the drawing board and seek other interest to achieve a much better solution for the Pavilion and the surrounding area than this scheme offers.
