| Torbay Council is asking local residents for their views on transport plans for the Bay. We here at Torbay Community Development Trust would like to ask you to participate and to circulate widely to ensure your voice is heard and that transport systems are designed well to meet all our needs. The comprehensive plans cover everything from addressing climate change to helping people to keep active, healthy and to thrive. You can have your say on public transport, cycle lanes, scooters, cars and ferries, as well as any ideas you may have to support Torbay Council’s ongoing commitment to the Devon Climate Emergency. Members of the public are being asked to complete an online survey which asks questions which will inform three key strategic transport projects for the Bay:Local Transport Action Plan (2021-2026) – A new 5 year plan which includes a range of key transport projects to improve access for all transport users in a variety of ways to be delivered over 5 years. Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) – A more detailed walking and cycling plan which is the first of its kind for Torbay and includes short, medium and long term priorities for improvement, in response to evidence.Active Travel Fund schemes (Phase 2) – Funding has been provided to deliver a number of active travel interventions – while some consultation was done on this before, there will be further engagement with residents before the projects are delivered. An immediate opportunity to deliver a small number of active travel interventions as agreed to and in response to the Government’s Active Travel Fund. Leader of Torbay Council Steve Darling said: “With plans for a new train station at Edginswell and new national funding opportunities coming up for innovative transport solutions for Torbay to help more people walk and cycle, there has never been a better time to have your say and help shape local transport strategy. “We are absolutely committed to working with the local community to address climate change, while also helping people to keep active and ensure local transport is as efficient as can be. “We know how essential getting more active can be for our wellbeing, especially during these difficult times – whether this is walking or cycling – so as well as being important to protect the environment, we want residents to tell us what we can do to help people become more active and improve their health.” Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council said: “Please do take the time to give us your views – this will help us set the priorities for our local transport over the next few years. “The Council has re-orientated its transport delivery priorities for more sustainable and active travel.
