Brixham Express Boat Arrives

The Brixham Express ferry service was originally intended to be provided by a catamaran, yet it is currently being operated by small fishing boats after long delays involving the vessel intended to provide it.
This vessel has now finally arrived in Brixham and is designed to make the trip across the bay in 15 minutes.

Connections Offices To Close

Torbay Council has this week announced that on Monday 8 August 2016 the Connections service will be centralised to one office and will only be operating from Paignton Library and Information Centre.

This means Torquay and Brixham Connections offices will be closing permanatly at 5 pm on Friday 5 August. This decision was made by Councillors on 11th May 2016 following the trial closures which took place in October last year.

To compensate for these closures freephones will be available in Torquay and Brixham Libraries to enable residents to connect with a range of council services. Secure document boxes will also be in place (again in Torquay and Brixham Libraries) for customers who are required to submit supporting evidence and information, but are unable to travel to Paignton. The documents will then by returned to customers by post.

A pre-booked appointment service will also be made available for customers who are unable to resolve their enquiry over the phone or online. These appointments will be with a member of the Connections team within Brixham and Torquay Library one day per week.

Delay To Rail Report

After the storms in 2014 severed our region’s key rail link at Dawlish the Peninsula Rail Task Force was tasked with drawing up a plan for the long term future of our railway.

The final report was due to be delivered to the Government next month, but the PRTF announced this week that following the consultation undertaken last month this will now be delayed until after summer.

Getting work underway on many of the improvements included in the report is crucial for our region, but it is also vital that the final report can form the basis of lobbying for the next decade. Therefore a couple of extra months to get it right and deal with all issues raised in the consultation may make sense.

Pirates on the Run?

Police in Kingsbridge are appealing for help to capture a gang of criminals that sound like extras from a Pirate Film.

The four men being hunted include one with a false leg and another with gold teeth. It only needs a Parrot on the shoulder and a skull and crossbones on their hats to complete the Pirate look.

You can read more on the Herald Express website by clicking here although if they catch the crooks concerned it sounds like they could use Captain Pugwash as an extra in the identity parade!!
