Wolf Pack of Police Cars

There were few places to hide for those breaking traffic laws when a convoy of 19 Police Cars swooped into the bay this week for an intensive enforcement exercise.

Operation Allied Wolf was the formal name for the 18-hour operation during which Police detected 80 offences, plus 352 speeding offenders, one every three minutes.  One driver was caught driving at 103mph on the A38 near the Totnes turn off.  Another was caught driving at 50mph on Dartmouth Road in Paignton, where the limit is 30mph.

For the first time, drug drivers were caught locally using new DrugWipes which detect illegal substances in saliva. The operation took place on Friday and Saturday to target organised crime and traffic offenders.

The Police have indicated they will be conducting further operations and you can read the full list of offences they detected on the Herald Express website by clicking here.

Neighbourhood Plan Launch

The Neighbourhood Plan for Torquay is being launched on Monday 7th March at the Livermead House Hotel and it is an opportunity for residents have their say on it.

You can drop into the Hotel anytime between 2pm and 8pm to view the proposals for your area and also fundamental changes proposed for Torquay Town Centre and the Gateway to Torquay at Edginswell.

This launch is the beginning of a public consultation period which will ultimately culminate in a referendum in which you will be required to vote. Changes can still be made at this time so your input is valuable, as is your indication of support or objection.

Aspects of the plan have been in the news, such as the suggestion of trying to move nightclubs away from Torquay Harbourside, yet this is the one occasion when you will be able to see the full picture of what is being proposed in the Neighbourhood Plan.

Fancy Running The Water Park?

If you fancy dipping much more than a toe into a new business venture then the waterpark at Goodrington Sands, Paignton, is available to lease under a tender to prospective operators.

The property and site includes an outdoor waterpark, a beach shop, restaurant, takeaway outlets, offices, a large sun terrace and a large tarmac surface area and Go-Kart Track site.  Rental offers for a maximum of a 40 year lease are sought from an experienced, water based, leisure attraction operator willing to invest, develop and operate a high quality, leisure attraction facility from this site.

A Big Blue Monster

As the debate about the forthcoming European Referendum continues it was interesting to read of another controversy being discussed, whether a building on Torquay Harbourside is too blue.

This debate about being blue has nothing to do with views on politics, but rather focuses on opinions in relation to a real view at the heart of one of our bay’s most popular locations. A new owner has painted his building bright blue to reflect the American Diner theme of his business, yet one Councillor has labelled it “the Blue Monster”.

The Herald Express has a poll on its website showing opinion is split right down the middle on whether people love or loathe the new look. Just like the EU Referendum you can make your choice by clicking here.

Road Investment

On Tuesday Neil Parish secured a debate in parliament to talk about the need for investment in the key roads that serve our region.

It was a great chance to flag up the benefits investment has brought to our region so far and what more could deliver. You can read Kevin Foster’s comments in the debate by clicking here.
