Supermarket Plan For Torquay Town Hall Car Park Moves Forward

There was an update this week on the latest with the plans to build a Supermarket on the Town Hall Car Park.

The Council reached an agreement with a developer and it was indicated that a planning application would be submitted within 6 months of it. This period has now passed and a further 6 month period has been agreed by the Council following a presentation by the developers to councillors.

 

Holiday Visitor Numbers Up

The Office for National Statistics regularly produces a range of data on the economy and our nation as a whole.

This week they produced figures showing that the number of holiday visitors to the UK rose by 18% from February to May compared to the same period last year. In addition the number of visits abroad by UK residents was 1% lower, despite all the publicity surrounding weather in the UK.

Babbacombe Festival – Wednesday 18th June to Sunday 22nd June

This week’s highlight has to be the Babbacombe Festival with a range of events and fun for all the family. Whilst some of the evening events require tickets to be bought, other items are free.

Last year’s Rotary Prom was a fantastic event and many of the events will reflect the 70th Anniversary of D-Day.

Babbacombe Rotary Fayre – Wednesday 18th June

The ever popular Babbacombe Rotary Fayre will take place between 10am and 4pm on The Downs with lots of fun for all the family. The day will include a BBQ, Face Painting, a children’s photography competition and lots more.

Sister Act by TOADS – Princess Theatre Tuesday 24th till Saturday 28th June

The popular TOADS group will be putting on “Sister Act” and it promises to be a lot of fun.
Ticket prices are £17 with concessions, plus group bookings of 10 come with one free ticket. They can be bought from the Princess Theatre or Tourist Information Centres without incurring any handling costs.
