The Riviera Line

The re-opening of the Dawlish Line means services on the Riviera Line between Paignton and Exmouth have been restored, yet there are a couple of things you may wish to note before travelling.

The first is that, whilst repair work carries on, some trains will run slightly differently to the published timetable. Stopping services between Exeter, Newton Abbot & Torbay may leave stations slightly earlier than normal; check the timetables at the station for full details.
The second is that, on Sunday 6th April, Rail Replacement services will be operating on the line between Paignton and Newton Abbot so allow extra time for your journey.

New Parking System At Lower Union Lane

A new ticketless parking system has been introduced by the Council at Lower Union Lane Car Park in Torquay and residents’ views are being sought.

The ticketless system is very different to the traditional “Pay & Display” system and removes the prospect of getting a ticket if you are longer than you expected. In effect you will pay for what you use as many motorists over-estimate the time they need to pay for when parking.

On-entry cameras record vehicle registrations and are used to calculate what customers need to pay for their parking time. On return to the car park, customers type in their vehicle registration into one of the four easy-to-use pay stations and the machine will indicate what payment is required.  After payment is made, the vehicle approaches the barriers on exit and the barriers rise. There’s no losing tickets, no tickets getting damaged and no tickets jamming in machines.
A Frequently Asked Questions sheet about using the new system is available on Torbay Council’s website on the Parking pages.

The Council would like to hear feedback from users to help assess whether to introduce pay on exit systems in other car parks. Users are asked to contact Torbay Council by emailing: parking.payonexit@torbay.gov.uk to say whether they prefer this type of parking system.

Maritime Display to Visit Torbay

It has been announced this week that a unique collection of World War Two maritime crafts will be coming to Torquay Harbour from the end of April.

Visitors and residents in Torbay will have the opportunity to view and board this unique flotilla of ‘little ships’ which will include two motor torpedo boats, a motor anti-submarine boat and one from the Royal Army Service Corps. The maritime crafts will be berthed on a pontoon on the inside of South Pier in Torquay’s inner harbour and the display will be open for visitors from the beginning of May.
